Understanding Hypermobility, EDS, Dysautonomia, and MCAS

These conditions often overlap, creating a wide range of symptoms that affect joints, circulation, and the immune system. By understanding how they interact, we can develop personalized treatment plans that target all symptoms and help patients feel more in control of their health.

Hypermobility condition affecting joints with movement beyond the typical range.

Hypermobility

Hypermobility occurs when joints move beyond their normal range of motion. While some people are naturally flexible without issues, others develop Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), where excessive joint movement leads to pain, fatigue, and injury.

Common symptoms include:

  • Frequent sprains, strains, or partial dislocations

  • Joint instability and “giving way” during activity

  • Chronic muscle fatigue, soreness, and poor posture control

  • Delayed healing after exercise or injury

  • Difficulty sensing joint position (proprioception problems)

  • Overlap with EDS, dysautonomia (such as POTS), and MCAS

FIT helps patients with hypermobility by combining Fascial Mapping™, Hydrofascia Release, targeted physical therapy, and lifestyle strategies to improve stability, reduce injury risk, and restore confidence in movement.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)

EDS is a group of tissue disorders that weaken collagen, the protein that gives strength and flexibility to joints, skin, and organs. Because of this, people with EDS often experience:

  • Loose joints and frequent dislocations – Weak joints can slip out of place, causing pain, instability, and a higher risk of injury.

  • Chronic pain and fatigue – Everyday activities can be tiring due to weak muscles and joint strain.

  • Digestive and circulation problems – Many patients struggle with stomach issues, blood pressure changes, and temperature control.

Dysautonomia

Dysautonomia affects the autonomic nervous system, which controls automatic body functions like heart rate, digestion, and body temperature.

It often occurs alongside EDS, leading to symptoms such as:

  • POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome): Feeling dizzy or faint when standing up due to a sudden increase in heart rate.

  • Blood pressure swings: Sudden spikes or drops in blood pressure can cause weakness and fatigue.

  • Temperature regulation problems: Many people feel too hot or too cold because their nervous system has trouble controlling body temperature.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)

MCAS happens when mast cells, a part of the immune system, release too many inflammatory chemicals, leading to allergy-like reactions. Symptoms can include:

  • Skin rashes and hives – Flare-ups caused by foods, scents, or environmental triggers.

  • Severe allergic-like reactions – Some people experience flushing, swelling, or even trouble breathing.

  • Digestive problems – Many MCAS patients deal with nausea, bloating, and gut inflammation.

Bringing It All Together

Since these conditions often overlap, our team takes a comprehensive approach to treatment. By targeting all symptoms, we help patients improve mobility, manage symptoms, and feel more in control of their health.
