Photobiomodulation at FIT

Celluma Red Light Therapy — healing at the cellular level.

FDA-cleared, medical-grade LED light therapy — used in our clinic and offered for purchase to take home. Red and near-infrared wavelengths drive mitochondrial energy production, reduce inflammation, and support tissue repair for pain, lipedema, and recovery.

The Science

How red light actually works.

Red light (around 630–660 nm) and near-infrared light (around 850 nm) penetrate skin and underlying tissue, where they are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria. This boosts ATP production, reduces oxidative stress, calms inflammatory signaling, and increases local blood flow — the same mechanism studied for wound healing, musculoskeletal pain, and adipose tissue remodeling.

Photobiomodulation is already included in our ProloBoost Dual PRP visits and integrated alongside Hydrofascia Release™ and our FIT Lipedema & Inflammation Program (FLIP). The home-use Celluma devices below extend that same therapy between visits.

What We Use It For

Three clinical applications, one underlying mechanism.

Pain Control

Musculoskeletal & chronic pain

Joint pain, tendinopathy, neck and low-back pain, post-injection soreness, fibromyalgia tender points, and arthritis flares. Used at home to extend the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects between clinic visits.

Lipedema

Adipose remodeling & inflammation

Red and near-infrared light has been shown to reduce adipocyte size, modulate inflammation, and trigger fat-cell apoptosis in lipedema tissue. A core part of our FLIP Program and continued at home for ongoing symptom control.

Recovery

Post-procedure & tissue repair

After Hydrofascia Release™, PRP, prolotherapy, or surgery — to support circulation, accelerate tissue repair, reduce post-procedure soreness, and maintain mitochondrial function in stressed tissue.

The Celluma Lineup

The devices we recommend — matched to what you need to treat.

All Celluma devices are FDA-cleared, medical-grade LED panels using clinically validated red (around 640 nm) and near-infrared (around 880 nm) wavelengths — the same Celluma technology used in our clinic. Most are HSA/FSA eligible. Call the FIT office at (504) 704-1254 to discuss which device fits your condition and to purchase.

Celluma PRO PLUS

4-mode upgrade adding a dedicated body-contouring mode. FDA-cleared for body contouring, pain, aging skin, and acne — our top recommendation for lipedema patients working between FLIP visits.

· Best for: lipedema, inflammation   · Adds contouring mode   · Battery-powered

Most Versatile · Portable

Celluma NOVA

Compact, 5-mode device with every FDA-cleared Celluma indication: pain, contouring, hair growth, aging skin, and acne. Built for targeted treatments anywhere on the body — ideal for patients who want one device to do it all.

· All five modes   · Travel-friendly   · Battery-powered

Whole-Body Coverage

Celluma CONTOUR & CONTOUR PLUS

Multi-panel system that runs up to three large panels at once — covers thighs, abdomen, hips simultaneously. The CONTOUR PLUS adds hair-growth mode. Best for lipedema patients needing larger treatment fields or athletes treating multiple regions.

· Up to 3× coverage   · Modular   · Pain + contouring

Pain Only · Single Mode

Celluma SPORT

Large, single-mode LED panel FDA-cleared for pain relief only. Designed for arthritis, muscle and joint pain, inflammation, and athletic recovery. The simplest, most affordable large-panel option for patients whose only goal is pain control.

· Pain-focused   · Large panel   · Athlete recovery

Compact · Entry-Level Pain

Celluma HOME & LITE

Smaller, lightweight panels for targeted treatments — wrist, elbow, ankle, neck. HOME is 2-mode (pain + aging); LITE adds acne. Easy to wrap around a joint with a Velcro strap. Great for patients with one or two recurring pain spots.

· Spot treatment   · Most affordable   · Strap-friendly

Handheld · Spot Treatment

Celluma POD S2

Mini handheld 4-mode device. FDA-cleared for pain, contouring, aging, and acne — designed for small, precise treatment areas. The most portable Celluma; fits in a bag for travel or quick at-home sessions.

· Handheld   · 4 modes   · Travel size

Full-Body · Premium

Celluma DELUX S2

4-mode full-body LED blanket — neck to toe in a single treatment. FDA-cleared for contouring, pain, aging, and acne. Best fit for advanced lipedema cases, athletes with multi-region recovery needs, or patients with diffuse pain.

· Neck to toe   · Lipedema-grade   · Premium tier

Scalp + Pain

Celluma RESTORE

Compact 3-mode panel FDA-cleared for hair growth, aging skin, and pain. Designed to contour the scalp but flexible enough for face or body. Best for patients combining hair-restoration goals with a pain or recovery indication.

· Scalp-shaped   · Hair growth mode   · Battery-powered

Face & Hair · Skin-Focused

Celluma MYSTIQUE & FACE

Skin-focused devices: MYSTIQUE is a face-and-scalp LED mask treating acne, aging, and hair restoration together. FACE is a compact 2-mode panel for acne and aging. Not primary pain devices — better matched when skin or hair is the main concern.

· Skin & scalp   · Not for deep pain   · Hands-free

Accessories such as Velcro straps, facial rest stands, hygienic barrier sleeves, and tote bags are available alongside any device. Ask when you call.

The Evidence

Peer-reviewed support — pain and lipedema.

A growing body of randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses supports photobiomodulation (red and near-infrared light therapy) for pain and adipose-tissue modulation. Selected references:

Frequently Asked

Common questions — before you call.

The PRO PLUS is our most common recommendation because it adds the dedicated body-contouring mode. Patients with more advanced disease or large treatment fields often choose the CONTOUR / CONTOUR PLUS (multi-panel) or the DELUX S2 full-body blanket. We help match the device to your stage and treatment plan when you call.
For a single large pain region (knee, low back, shoulder, neck): the Celluma PRO or SPORT. For multiple regions or whole-body use: CONTOUR or DELUX S2. For one or two small joints: HOME, LITE, or the handheld POD S2.
Typical protocols are 30-minute sessions, 3–5 times per week, for at least 4–8 weeks before reassessing. Specific dosing depends on the device and indication — we provide a written protocol when you purchase through the clinic.
Most Celluma devices are HSA/FSA eligible. We can also provide a Letter of Medical Necessity when appropriate for your condition.
Call the FIT office at (504) 704-1254. We will walk you through model selection based on your diagnosis, place the order, and review the at-home treatment protocol with you. You do not have to be an established FIT patient to purchase.
Photobiomodulation has an excellent safety profile — it is non-thermal, non-ionizing, and FDA-cleared for the indications listed on each device. Eye protection is recommended; do not use over active malignancy, over the abdomen during pregnancy, or on photosensitive skin without clinician guidance.
